President-Elect Donald Trump thinks that the updated versions of Air Force One currently on the drawing board at Boeing are too expensive, and wants to cancel the contract. Left-Wingers are sure that this is because a Boeing official criticized Trump and hurt his feelings. More savvy observers think that, despite assurances that he no longer owns Boeing stock, Trump is messing about in order to make himself some money. Still others insist that Trump’s own plane is way more comfortable, so he sees no reason to use Air Force One anyway. One has to ask, though, how Trump’s current air transport will hold up against a nuclear blast, or any of the other emergency situations that Air Force One was built to withstand.
